This site is dedicated to understanding and sharing reasons on how to get minorities and women to participate in leading and voting in higher numbers. We will invite guest bloggers, post articles, videos and photos of women and participants that we interview for the new documentary: Engage Her! Getting minority women to vote that we are collaborating on.
The documentary focuses on the stories of minority women to explore the reasons why they historically do not turn out to vote in high percentages. Many of the reasons we have uncovered include: coming from non-democratic, dictatorial or communist countries, lacking experience in civic engagement, language barriers, feelings that their votes don’t count or won’t be counted, not perceiving the importance of voting, etc. The film will be released September 10, 2008 to make an impact and persuade more minorities, women and communities to vote and get involved in the 2008 fall elections. Our plans are to have screenings, house parties, organizations and individuals view and share the documentary with their own families and communities. We welcome your viewing and sharing of stories and comments. The site is dedicated to hearing your voices and insights to help us better understand how we can all encourage our children, mothers and community to participate and make a huge difference.
Who are we:
Mable Yee
I’m a high tech entrepreneur and as CEO have co-founded several start up companies in the tech and Internet space. For the past 20+ years I’ve worked in the technology and business sector primarily surrounded by male executives and co-workers. Being an Asian American woman in a male dominated industry has always been challenging with multiple hurdles to overcome. I’ve encountered both opportunities and difficulties to deal with in order to achieve an executive role. A few years back, I was fortunate enough to give birth to twin boys and it has changed my perspective dramatically. As a result, I’ve become politically active and engaged to ensure we’re leaving a better planet for our children and our future. Engage Her is an opportunity to learn and share many of life’s lessons and encourage women, minorities and communities to get involved and make a difference in our future.

Hello Mable Yee,
I am writing to tell you thank you. I had searched everywhere to do my final paper in Advanced College-Level Academic Skills class. The topic “What keeps people in my demographic from voting”. Your site really helped me, I will make sure I give you your rightful citations in my paper. I am so intrigued. By the way I am a black single, divorced mother of three and a grandbaby. So I found the information astonishing. I actually campaigned here in Jacksonville Florida in 2000 for the Kerry campaign. Working with Corrine Brown. Thank you and keep up the smart work!
